The expedition left from Lisbon, went to the Cape Verde Islands, Mozabmbique, Mobasa, Malindi, and from there to Calicut, India. The journey was from 1497 to 1499.
In 1519 Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese sea captain led several ships from Spain to Asia. Magellan made it to the Philippines and was killed there. His crew continued and sailed "around the world".
