Alvarez de Pindea discovered the mouth of the Mississippi River in 1519.

Hernando de Soto also finds the Mississippi River but that was 22 years later in 1541.

In 1673 Jacques Marquette and Louis Joliet verify that the river flows into the Gulf of Mexico and they explored well inland.
