There were more than one (these are the years they rules, not their life): Elizabeth I - until 1603 James I (of England) - 1603 -1625 (he was also James I of Ireland and James VI of Scotland) Charles I - 1625-1649 Between 1649 and 1660, there was no monarchy. Instead there was the Commonwealth of England. The monarchy was restored in 1660. Charles II - 1660-1685 James II (of England) - 1685-1688 Mary II & William III - 1689-1702 (Mary died 1694 and William continue alone)

Prime minister from 1721 until 1742 was Sir Robert Walpole. Spencer Compton, 1st Earl of Wilmington was in office from 1742 until 1743, followed by Henry Pelham from 1743 until 1754. Thomas Pelham Holles, 1st Duke of Newcastle was in office from 1754 until 1756, when he was succeeded by William Cavendish, the 4th Duke of Devonshire who was in office from 1756 until 1757. From 1757 until 1762, Thomas Pelham-Holles was again in office, this time followed by John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute who was in office from 1762 until 1763. From 1763 to 1765, George Grenville served as Prime Minister, followed by Charles Watson-Wentworth, 2nd Marquis of Rockingham from 1765 to 1766, and William Pitt the Elder, 1st Earl of Chatham from 1766 to 1768, and Augustus FitzRoy, 3rd Duke of Grafton from 1768 to 1770. Frederick North, Lord North served as Prime Minister from 1770 to 1782, followed by Charles Watson-Wentworth who was again in office from for a few weeks of 1782. William Petty-FitzMaurice, 2nd Earl of Shelburne served from 1782 until 1783, followed by William Cavendish-Bentinck, 3rd Duke of Portland who was in office for a few months of 1783. William Pitt the Younger served as Prime Minister from 1783 until 1801.
