It was not until the mid-20th century, with the development of antibiotics, that even most healthy infants had an excellent chance of making it to adulthood.

Did the Germans evacuate children during world war 2?

No. Hitler kept the children in his country and brainwashed them with his horrendous ideas and values. The children were made to worship Adolf Hitler in school, the Hitler Youth Union and the pre-army training. The children actually had to say that Adolf Hitler was their savior and they had to pledge their allegiance to him and be willing to die for him. And they did exactly that. Most of the German Children loved him and did anything he wanted them to do for him. Some were against Hitler if their parents were. Some were for Hitler if their parents were against him. Some were against Hitler when their parents were for him. So you had a lot of differences between family members, teachers and other adults in authority of the children. The only children who left Germany were the Jewish children and smart German families who escaped the Nazi tyranny and took their children with them. There were some teen kids who escaped on their own. There were a few kids who managed to escape the Nazis and the concentration camps or ghettos. But that was rare. Hitler was so horrible he even used children as forced slave labor. So you can see how little he really cared about the German people and children. He expected everyone to obey him or they could face death or evil, cruel imprisonment. Some children hid with their families away from the Gestapo and the Nazis. (example of Anne Frank in Belgium). The only type of evacuation that was done was when they had to clear out bombed out cities and move everyone to another German location. But, they did not evacuate BEFORE the bombings.
