For the most part, shell shock was not recognized as an illness or health condition. Therefore, there was no treatment in place. Even today our soldiers with diagnosed PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress - should not be disorder but Syndrome), have trouble receiving proper treatment.

∙ 9y agoVarious forms of treatment for shell shock have been tried. Psychotherapy and psychiatry are usually used nowadays. During and after World War I, electric shock treatment was sometimes used.

∙ 9y agoShell shock is mostly referred to as anxiety and post traumatic stress disorders. The treatment for this is regular psychiatry visits and possibly medication.
