Various forms of treatment for shell shock have been tried. Psychotherapy and psychiatry are usually used nowadays. During and after World War I, electric shock treatment was sometimes used.

Shell shock is mostly referred to as anxiety and post traumatic stress disorders. The treatment for this is regular psychiatry visits and possibly medication.
