It is important to be a patriot because it shows your love for your country and that you support it's best interests. plus it shoows that you will alway stay true to your old ways in hard times.

First of all, I would like to be a Patriot. The reasons are:

• when the Patriots stormed through Fort Ticonderoga, they got free weapons that they could use during the war
• some Patriots lived in colonies where you had religios freedom, and that was a HUGE plus!

It depends on what you mean by a "patriot." Often, this term is associated with war and refers to men and women who performed extremely courageous actions that helped their country to defeat some enemy; many people would say George Washington was a patriot, since he led the colonies during the Revolutionary War and fought courageously against the British, to help America win its independence.

The reasons for being a patriot originate with the love and loyalty a person feels for his (or her) country, such that the person would sacrifice to help the country, even if doing so is unpopular or dangerous. For example, most of us would say Abraham Lincoln was a true patriot, who tried to hold the country together during the Civil War and who showed great political courage in deciding to free the slaves (a controversial gesture that contributed to his being assassinated). Not every patriot is famous like Washington or Lincoln, and not every patriot is involved in a war. There have been numerous people who devoted their life to improving their country, and who repeatedly went above and beyond in their efforts to make a difference. They too could be called patriots, since they did what they did because they cared deeply about their country. By this definition, Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks, who led the Civil Rights Movement and helped to end segregation, might be considered patriots.
