The Virginia plan said that the larger states should have more votes in the house or representatives, while the New Jersey plan said that all states should have the same number, they reached a compromise by allowing larger states to have more votes and people in the House of reps. while in the senate everyone just has 2 votes.
The NJ Plan:
1. Unicameral (one chamber legislature)
2. States have equal representation in legislature
3. multiperson executive (not only one president)
4. nation law is the supreme law
5. Small states supported this plan
The Va Plan:
1. bicameral (two chamber legislature
2. 3 branches of government (legislature, executive, and judicial)
3. one president
4. state's representation in the legislature be in proportion to the state's population
5. Big states preferred this plan
The Virgina Plan based congressional representation for each state on two houses, both determined by population. This benefited Virgina, as they were the most populated state, which would have given them a lot of congressional power. The New Jersey Plan was a single house based on a set number of representatives from each state. This benefited smaller states, such as New Jersey, because they would have equal representation. The Connecticut Plan, which would become know as the Great Compromise, lead to the current system we have now of two house, one by a set number (the Senate) and one by population (the House of Representatives).
