If one is interested in getting 'acquitted', it will be required to go to court. The only way to get acquitted in the United States is to have the judge order it. One cannot simply acquit themselves.

What is the significance of Samuel chase?

He was a justice of the US Supreme Court who Jefferson urged Congress to impeach. He went on trial in 1805 but was acquitted, and this ruling set a precedence that impeachment was not to become a way for politicians to get rid of their political partisan rivals in America.

President did the House of Representatives impeach?

The House of Representatives has impeached twoPresidents: Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Both were acquitted at their Senate trials.

What are the list of presidents that have been impeached?

Two US presidents have been impeached: Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Both were tried by the Senate (as is required in impeachment) and acquitted. Clinton was acquitted by a very wide margin - a 2/3 majority vote of the senate is required to convict, and on each charge, no more than half of the senate voted to convict him. Johnson, on the other hand, was acquitted by only one vote. Richard Nixon chose to resign rather than face impeachment. The House of Representatives was already holding hearings considering whether to draw up articles of impeachment against him, and then the Supreme Court ordered the release of several recorded conversations showing that he knew about the cover-up of the Watergate break-in, and tried to stop the FBI from investigating. In the face of this, it became certain that he would be impeached, and, most likely, convicted and removed from office. He therefore resigned to avoid complete disgrace. It is only speculation regarding former US president Richard Nixon.

Is there a US president who got impeached?

Yes. Two US Presidents were impeached, and another probably would have been, but resigned before the House of Representatives could take action.President Andrew Johnson was impeached for violating the Tenure of Office Act in 1868; President Bill Clinton was impeached for Obstruction of Justice in 1998. Both men were acquitted after their Senate trials.President Richard Nixon resigned in 1974 because he expected to be impeached after the US Supreme Court ordered him to give the Watergate tapes to Special Prosecutor Leon Jaworski.

Which US presidents who have stood trial for impeachment?

Both Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson were impeached by the House but found not guilty by the Senate. Nixon only faced the threat of impeachment but articles of impeachment were never submitted before he resigned. Had Nixon tried to fight most likely he would have been impeached, found guilty, and removed from office, becoming the first president in U.S. history to face such ignominy.
