Too long, theres some that have been there all there life, Congressmen are elected for two-year terms. They are reelected as many times as they care to be--it is very rare to see a congressman voted out of office.

The House of Representatives of Congress number 435 (435 of them from districts of roughly equal population) are elected for terms of two years. Senators (100 of them, two from each State) are elected to six year terms.

Usually the members of the House of Representatives are call "congressmen". and the members of the Senate are called "senators".

QUestion a bit unclear. It could be interepreted as historical, in which case the answer is that the nation has been electing congressmen since the Constitution was passed in 1787. Stepping back a bit further, men were elected to three Continental Congress in 1774 through 1789.
