The constitution could be argued as pro-life or pro-choice. The constitution gives people the right to life. However, the 9th Amendment proclaims that citizens have many rights not specifically granted in the Constitution. Pro-choice advocates say that this means pregnant women have the right to an abortion (they consider the fetus part of the female body not a separate entity). This leaves the decision to the Supreme Court to interpret the Constitution and in their infinite wisdom they decided it was constitutional to have an abortion as long as it is before a certain time. This implies that abortions are legal as long as it is the first trimester-- after that the Supreme Court recognizes the fetus as a separate person and gives it the right to life.
