The Stone of Scone (also known as the Coronation Stone) was captured from Scotland in 1296 and placed under the throne in Westminster Abbey under the orders of King Edward I.

On 15 November 1996 the Stone of Scone was officially handed back to Scotland and it is now kept in Edinburgh Castle. As part of the agreement, the stone will be placed under the throne at Westminster Abbey for coronations.
