Franklin D. Roosevelt served three full terms as president, and died on the 82nd day of his fourth term. Since the passage of the 22nd amendment, presidents can be elected to at most two terms. FDR was the only president who ever ran for a third term. George Washington had made a point of refusing a third term and FDR was the only president who tried to break Washington's precedent.

I can only think of one person to have won the popular vote in three consecutive Presidential elections. That person was President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. President Roosevelt was a member of the Democratic party who won four Presidential elections. He served as President from the date of his first inauguration in 1933 until his death in 1945. He died during the first few months of his fourth term.

All Presidents are elected by the Electoral Colleges in each State, not by popular (by the people) votes. When you go to the voting booth, you are actually voting for electors in your State. The electors in each State decide who the entire State will vote for the office of President.

The exception was President Gerald Ford . . . but he was never elected.

Only Franklin D. Roosevelt has been elected for 3 terms. In fact, he was elected for four, but only served three because he died.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was the only President to be elected more than two times. He was elected to four terms, in 1932,1936,1940 and 1944. His record will never be equaled because since then an amendment has been ratified that limits the president to being elected no more than twice.
