In a true democracy, one of the few (cough, cough) cons is that is can be considered a "mob rule" country. If 51% of the people believe something that 49% do not, then the 49% (a very LARGE percentage) are out of luck.

Negative aspects of political parties may include governing in their own interests rather than the public interest. On some occasions, party leaders may have to choose between what is best for the public and what is best for their political party. One example might be in patronage appointments to public office. It might be helpful for a political party to be able to demonstrate the power and influence that it has over government appointments, but if the person appointed is not qualified, then the public's interest in having programs run by competent officials might be ignored.

corruption is one. politicians could be corrupt, this would stifle the welfare of society and prevent the deserving from receving the aid they need.
