What is the significance of Pontiac's rebellion?

In the aftermath of the Seven Years' War (1754-1763), the English raised the price of goods sold to the Native Americans and ceased paying rent on their western forts. In response, Ottawa war chief Pontiac rallied a group of tribes in the Ohio Valley and attacked colonial outposts. In response, the British Government issued the Proclamation of 1763.

Pontiac, the great Ottawa chief who had sided with the French during the French Indian Wars decided to conduct a direct attack on the British stronghold at Fort Detroit. British soldiers were on full alert and after several long months he gave up.

One thing was that the British government issued the Proclamation of 1763. All colonists had to move east of the line. This was done to prevent further trouble with the Native Americans. Also the British gave a gift to the tribe it was blankets but they were infested with small pox they got very mad and that is when it started.
