"the fight has just Begin!" John Paul Jones. Also that he didn't start to fight or the war has not begun
HMS Serapis was a Royal Navy two-decked, Roebuck-class fifth rate, launched in 1779. Captain Richard Pearson was the commander of the ship during the Revolutionary War. He broadsided the American ship. John Paul Jones, the captain of an American ship, Bonhomme Richard, responded, "I have not yet begun to fight."

In 1779, while in command of the American vessel "Bon Homme Richard", Captain John Paul Jones engaged the British frigate HMS Serapis in the "Battle of Flamborough Head". While maneuvering to grapple the Serapis and board her, the British captain taunted Jones "Will you yield?", the Bon Homme Richard having been severely damaged. Jones replied "I have not yet BEGUN to fight!" After a prolonged battle, the Americans prevailed and the captain of the Serapis surrendered. The American crew was forced to abandon the sinking Bon Homme Richard, and sailed the Serapis to (neutral) Holland for repairs.
The Battle of Serapis was important, because it was a big part of the American Revolution. Once John Paul Jones won this battle, the British were embarrassed because they were defeated. The British, at the time, had the most powerful navy and were overpowered by soldiers who didn't have nearly that much training. Also, this battle inspired the Americans, because it showed that the British could be defeated and now they just had to defeat them on land to win the Revolutionary War
The captain of the Bonhomme Richard (John Paul Jones) won the battle at great costs. John Paul Jones lost half his men in this vicious battle between Great Britain (who was fighting with a ship called the Serapis) against "America." John Paul Jones and his crew had been under heavy fire for the first hour. The captian of the british ship asked if John would surrender but then he said "I haven't begun to fight." The next two hours were brutal. Finally John jumped on deck of the Serapia and claimed the ship. Only but 36 hours later he watched the Bonhomme Richard sink. okay... so who won british or Americans?

John Paul Jones was the captain of the American ship Bonhomme Richard and commodore of a supporting flotilla that fought the British ship HMS Serapis off the coast of England during the American Revolutionary War when it became engaged with the HMS Serapis in an attempt to take the convoy the Serapis was protecting. Though HMS Serapis was taken, the convoy escaped. The battle is well known for the premature demand to surrender issued by the British captain to which Jones issued the response, "I have not yet begun to fight."
The British commander during the seizure of Suez (Serapis) in 1914 was Major General A. Wallace. He led the British forces to secure the crucial Suez Canal during World War I.
