To answer your question, I will quote the Constitution. "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity......" Those words are the sum of the purpose of government in this country. I cant really think of a more "to the point" answer for you on this one. Please let me know if this answers your question.
The Government's role in our lives is to give/pass laws to help keep our many rights and freedoms from being taken away from us. They allow us to have religious, speech, education, and many more rights and freedoms that go along with our everyday lives. The Government will also help us with problems and send police out when there are emergencies, a crime in process that they know about, or when citizens have simple but urgent needs. They give us safety from different countries attacking us. Government also gives us the knowing of what is going on in different states of the U.S. when it is a big problem or something like who are the candidates for President and Vice President. ;)

Meal and Rest Periods

Overtime Pay and Holiday/Rest Day Pay

Under Article 93, if an employee is asked to work on their scheduled rest day or on a non-working holiday, the employee shall be paid an additional compensation of at least thirty percent (30%) of his regular wage.
Night Shift Differential
According to Article 86, every employee shall be paid a night shift differential of not less than ten percent (10%) of his regular wage for each hour of work performed between ten o'clock in the evening and six o'clock in the morning.
