The Preamble to the Constitution of the United States states: "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
In the United States, the constitution is the basis for the organization of the government. Only one amendment, the 18th is concerned with a law and that was repealed. In many states, such as Florida and California, the constitution is a mixture of a description of governmental organization and statutory laws. By strictly having the Constitution or the United States describe the organization of the government and establish restrictions on that government, it established the longest lasting government in the world.
The Constitution begins with a short statement called the Preamble. The Preamble states that the government of the United States was established by the people. "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domstic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our postperity do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
The Preamble of the Constitution of the United States states the six purposes of government. The Constitution was ratified on June 21, 1788.
