There was not much record of the education, but I assume that it wasn't great because they had just had WW1 and the children might be scared and/or might not have teachers since they had to fight because of the War.

WHAT was school like in the 1910's? School was much harder back then. The students had to learn writing, reading, arithmetic, handwriting, US history, world history, science, geography, health, literature and the higher classes had chemistry, Biology, botany, calculus, geometry and art classes. If you lived in the rural parts of the country you might have a one room school with one teacher who taught all ages and grade levels. In larger towns or more densely populated areas they would have larger school buildings and more teachers and perhaps a principal. The kids had really hard tests to take too. I have seen some of those tests and even I could not have answered some of those questions (and I had a teacher for a parent and went to school when the curriculum was far superior to the curriculum of today). Obviously they did not have computers or calculators. The kids actually had to learn to do the math that is programmed into calculators and computers. They had textbooks they learned from and they used a library to study. There was actually discipline in the 1910 schools. You even got in trouble for chewing gum in class or for picking on another kid.

Back then people were much busier trying to farm and survive while expanding the economy so they were probably partly illiterate. (Just like me)

Schools were quite different in 1914. It was expected that anyone graduating from the 8th grade would have a knowledge of high math as well as Latin and Greek.
