President Reagan nominated Justice Anthony M. Kennedy to the US Supreme Court in 1988, to replace Lewis F. Powell, who was retiring. He is an incumbent (still sitting) on the bench, and will have been on the Court approximately 23 and one-half years at the start of the 2011-2012 Term.
Kennedy is considered the "swing vote" on the Court because his conservative ideology is tempered by strong support for individual rights, such as privacy.

Who cares! The man does not know what he believes or what the constitution actually supports! He should be tested for senility, as should all justices. This court does not understand the English language, no less the Constitution. Corporations are composed of people, yet they are not people! Money is a means of commerce, not speech! When semantics become law; there is no law! Good luck America, you're screwed!

Justice Kennedy is Roman Catholic. Through a curious quirk of chance, the current Justices of the Supreme Court are five Catholics and three Jews. Justice Antonin Scalia, who passed away on February 13, 2016, was also Roman Catholic. Scalia occasionally spoke that the real requirement for "diversity" on the Supreme Court was to get at least one Protestant, preferably an Evangelical Protestant!
