The Declaration of Independence was first signed in the Pennsylvania State House, later re-named Independence Hall, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by just John Hancock and Charles Thomson, Secretary of the Convention. That handwritten document was later lost probably after the first printed verson was made. The Declaration on display now with the 56 signatures was not be signed until August 2, 1776 and not every person signed on that date either. Some persons signed it on later days.
On June 7, 1776, the Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia, PA. Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Robert Linvingston were appointed to write the Declaration of Independence. It was proclaimed on July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia.
