King Louis XV who was the King in France (the one that was overthrown and sent to the guillotine during the French Revolution) actually gave money to help the American cause. The Americans could not have won the war if they had not received financial & political support from France.

There had been revolutions prior to the American Revolution. But this was the first time a group of people outlined in writing (the Declaration) the reasons they were revolting and declaring that they were an independent state (nation).
There were only two battles before the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th, 1776. They were the Battle of Lexington and Concord and the first major battle of the American Revolution- the Battle of Bunker Hill.
