Jim Zwerg and John Lewis were two members of the 1960's Civil Rights movement in America. These two are especially notable together for their participation in the Freedom Rides, which were to test the laws desegregating bus terminals. However, when the bus's reached Montgomery Alabama, it was surrounded by a vicious mob. Jim Zwerg was the first one to get off of the bus in the face of the mob, and he was beaten severely even though he was white himself. Lewis came off soon after, and was beaten so severely, that he still bears the scars on his head to this day. John Lewis later recovers and becomes chairman of SNCC (student nonviolent coordinating committee), then a Congressman, which is a position he holds today.
