Andrew Johnson owned his tailor shop. Herbert Hoover ran a mining engineering consulting firm. Harry Truman was part owner and operator of a haberdashery shop. Carter owned a peanut distribution business. Both Bushes were in the oil business mostly as part-owners in oil development projects. Several other presidents owned owned their law offices in part or solely.
