Andrew Johnson became the first president to be impeached in 1868 for violating the Tenure of Office Act (among other things). He was acquitted by a single vote.

(Bill Clinton was the only other President to be impeached. He was acquitted as well.

There have only been two Presidents impeached: Andrew Johnson (1868) and Bill Clinton (1998). Neither were convicted during their Senate trial of any charge in their respective impeachments.

Andrew Johnson. He was not removed from office, however, as he received an acquittal from the Senate by a margin of only one vote.
