The Constitution of the United States is a document containing the fundamental principles by which we are governed. In other words it is a code of conduct that we adhere to for our protection. Without it we could not be free because tyrants would take over and we would lose our freedoms.

First of all.

What is a constitution?

It is a body of fundamental principles or established precedents according to which a state or other organization is acknowledged to be governed.

It can also be said to be rules and regulations according to which a state is governed.

We need a constitution because without it the state or country would be in a state of anarchy and also the government will be disorderly and to know whether the government is ruling the country according to the constitution.

In order to become a knowledgeable and informed citizen of your country, and know how your government operates. Without a body of citizens who are well-informed on how their government works how can they ever be knowldegeable about their own rights and responsibilities.

This question can be answered multiple ways.

One reason is that the constitution is the basic framework of the United States. You can't understand a country's history without understanding it's functions.

Another reason is that, 'The future problems can't be resolved without knowing the past.' This simply means that you need to understand the aspects of Society in order to understand how to improve them.

America needs the US Constitution because if we didn't have it, a lot of people would not have the same rights as others. Like amendment 13, slavery wasn't abolished until 1870. Amendment 15, African American men didn't get the right to vote until 1890.
