The Sons of Liberty were a secret group or society of men that were opposed to British taxation and abuses inflicted on the peoples of the thirteen colonies. They were involved in the Boston Tea Party of 1773. This organization was founded in Boston in 1765.
In protest of the Stamp Act, several merchants and artisans called The Loyal Nine, prepared to take action. The group grew in size and changed their name to the Sons of Liberty. These were not the educated aristocrats of the revolution, rather simple working men and tradesmen. Although their membership was secretive, two members who were journalists kept the rebellion in the news and therefore in the minds of everyone.
