In ancient Egyptian the word for "father" is written with signs that spell 'itf, but it is believed that the final fwas not pronounced, leaving just 'it.

The first person possessive pronoun (my) is written either with a seated man or the feather-sign -i. So "my father" is written 'itf-i. The i is a consonant that does not exist in English; hieroglyphs did not write any vowel sounds.

How this was pronounced can never be know; perhaps it was something like 'iat-y'.
