Why do you refer to something weak as the Achilles heel?

The term "Achilles heel" dates back to old Greek legends, which tell of a hero named Achilles, who's entire body was indestructible, except for a small area on the back of his heel. This made him a feared warrior, as he could not be damaged by weapons, until another warrior named Paris discovered his one weakness, his heel, and shot him in the heel with an arrow. The legend of Achilles is part of "The Iliad" by Homer. "Achilles heel", thus, refers to any specific weakness or vulnerability.

What are Achilles symbols?

Achilles doesn't have any symbols.

Was the Greek god Apollo in any major battles?

What is the meaning of Achilles' heel?

It is a person's point of weakness. Achilles, according to legend, was dunked in the River Styx by his mother Thetis when he was a baby. She wanted to make him immortal. While dunking him, she held him by the heel. This is the only body part that was not immortal. During the Trojan War, Paris shot him in the heel, killing him. His heel was his only weak point, hence his "Achilles Heel.'

What is the hero Ajax known for?

Ajax is a Greek hero found in both of Homer's stories, the Iliad and the Odyssey. In the Iliad, which is where Ajax met his fame, he is a highly regarded warrior. He was the King of Salamis and he led his solders to fight for Agamemnon in the war against Troy. He was an outstanding warrior, second only to the mighty Achilles in skill. Furthermore his is one of the only heroes in the Iliad who was unaided by any God or Goddess. Ajax survived the Trojan War. Shortly after the war there was a dispute between him and Odysseus about who should receive the shield and armor of Achilles. Odysseus received the honor, and in despair Ajax killed himself. In the Odyssey Ajax appears when Odysseus goes into Hades, where he finds Ajax mourning his own suicide.

What was Achilles personality?

He was supposed to be the strongest man on Earth Achilles wasn't particularly strong, he was invulnerable. His mother had dipped him in the river Styx which made his skin impenetrable (all except for the heel that she held him by). As you can imagine growing up with no option for discipline he was vain, selfish, impatient, stubborn and even cruel. His invulnerability made him a great warrior as no one could hurt him he never had to consider any defensive tactics and was just always on the attack. When the Greek ships approached the beach of Troy Achilles jumped over-board and fought with the Trojan army all by himself before any other Greek warrior could join him. The thing about Achilles' invulnerability comes to us from a single source three hundred years after Homer. It is not part of the original legend. In the Iliad there are four references to Achilles suffering very minor wounds in which blood was drawn, and none of them from the heel. see link for more details.

Which words do you get from greek and roman mythology?

If you mean to ask, "Are there root words from Greek or Roman anicent mythology?" then, yes. A massive amount of names, phrases, and English grammatical terms are derived from Greek or Roman mythology. For example, the name Sophia or Phillip or any other name with the "PH" in it is Greek. Or the phrase, "my Achilles Heel" actually orginated from the Trojan War hero, Achilles. Legend has it that Achilles was dipped into the River Styx by his heel to become immortal, but since his heel was left undipped it was the only immortal part of him. His only weakness. Or say the word apostrophe. We see the "PH" combo so it is, in fact, derived from Greek.

How tall is Achilles?

Achillies, some people think was 13 feet tall (greek myth) , but that would be a bit too much, he was also lightning quick even for his size. Though we can never know his true size since he was burned, as a funeral tradition in ancient greece.
