The religion of ancient Rome was for most of its recorded history a basic polytheism: many gods and goddesses were recognized as real and deserving of reverence of some kind, although certain gods (especially the God of War) were afforded special status. In later periods, monotheism became more prevalent, with Christianity, in particular, becoming the official religion of the Empire in the 4th century C.E.

The Romans' religion was that of Greco-Roman-later christianity.
History:
Before Jesus Christ, the Romans believed in The Greco-Roman gods, they were all gods/goddesses of the same things they just have different names. After Jesus' death, roman historians did not pay much attention to him. However, according to the Bible, a christian man named Paul traveled around the Mediterranean Sea to spread the gospel. Paul's life was changed when he accepted Christ and became a Christian. He used to be a Jew that killed Christians; now he was one himself. Anyway, he preached the gospel to the Romans and some believed in Christ. This did cause a few problems because the Christians refused to follow some of the government's laws. But after a while, because the number of Christians increased, Christianity was a religion that was free to be worshiped. That means that the Romans were free to believe in it. After a while, after a ton of this and that, Catholicism was born, and now, there are a lot of Catholics in this world.
In the early Roman times they had their own religion that worshipped many gods and goddesses like Zeus. Later on Christianity dominated in Rome.

Ancient rome were anonymous, poorly paid workers.
