the end of the medieval era and the start of the renaissance is a vague cut-off point. some use the start of the 16th century. some use the discovery of the Americas. others have noted much earlier dates, even so far as placing the authorship of Dante's Divine Comedy as the starting point.

suffice it to say, whatever date is chosen, the medieval and renaissance ages blended seamlessly into each other.
