From what little we know of Spartacus, we can assume that he fought human animals. He was supposed to have been a Thracian soldier. If true, he would have been skilled in combat. He also could have been a "Thrax" or a "Thracian" gladiator which was a style of fighting. At any rate, neither one of these gladiatorial designations fought animals.
Spartacus, joined the Roman army at 63 BC. Spartacus was poor so he joined the Roman Army hoping he will able to fight for his freedom but, Spartacus was asked to march agaist he own people, meaning he will have to kill people in his hometown, Thrace. But Spartacus does not agree to fight/kill his own people like saying "No I'm no doing this" then he deserted.
The name "Spartacus" is a Latin name. It had no nationality as such. The rebel gladiator Spartacus was said to be from Thrace and also was said to have served in the Roman army. Many auxiliaries either Latinized their names or changed them completely to a Latin (Roman) name.
According to the 1960 movie, Spartacus, he was crucified by Crassus. Spartacus had been captured in a battle and first had to fight Antoninus to the death, the winner to be crucified. Spartacus didn't want Antoninus to suffer on a cross, so he killed him in the fight. The main thing that Spatacus did was that he was the 1st slave to lead a revolt against the Roman Empire. In the battle the Romans won and Spatacus and all the people captured alive were crucified. This was the normal punishment in those days for anyone who challenged the power of Rome.

As the title should tell you, the movie Spartacus is about the gladiator who escaped along with others and terrorized Italy. Much of the movie versions of Spartacus are fictionalized as very little is actually known about the person called Spartacus.
Spartacus was born a Thracian.
Gladiators!
Almost certainly yes. While plants can be deadly, humans and other animals as opponents would have been more entertaining.

Spartacus kills his best friend to spare him of the agonies of crucifixion. This happened after the Spartacus slave army was defeated and Spartacus and his friend were captured.
