No group of people attempted to restore the western part of the Roman Empire. Justinian I, the emperor of the eastern part of the Roman Empire, which, unlike the western part, did not fall. He set out to reconquer the lands lost in the west. He succeeded in retaking Italy, north-western Africa and southern Spain. However, subsequently these lands were lost again.
