Look up websites on Middle Ages Feudalism. Social Ladder of the Middle Ages was not a ladder at all. On rare ocasions a person could climb up a class or receive a promotion of sorts for services rendered. An example would be an endentured servant being set free; for the most part however, people were born to a certain social status and could never expect to leave it. Serfs remained Serfs and a son was expected to go into the exact same line of work as their father.
