The social class of a medieval king's blacksmith would depend on the society. Blacksmithing is hard, smelly, dirty work. Some societies would look down on the blacksmith for that reason and his social class would of been very low. On the other hand a Blacksmith dealt with and controlled the four ancient elements Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. They took metal(Earth) an heated it up in a forge by blowing air on fuel(controlling Air and Fire) Reshaped the metal (Controlling Earth) and cooled the piece in a bucket of water or changed the properties of the metal by immersing it in water (Using Water to change earth) in these cirumstances a Blacksmith could be looked upon as an equal to the King.
