Lords...they made taxes and decided concequences. Since they often had so much work to do, they had assistants or stewards. They traveled quite a bit anf often fought alongside the king. They had a great amount of spare time and they also gave rented out land to peasants.
I don't know a lot about ladies, sorry.

They had duties to the Church. They had duties to their wives and families. They had duties to the serfs on their manors, to provide them with homes, farm land, and protection. If they entered into contractual obligations, those duties had to be tended to.
Nobles, which include Lords and Ladies, had to look after peasants and make sure the bills and payments to the King were made. They also had to discuss laws and have various meetings with the King in the great hall and then inform the Knights.
A medieval Lord's job was the governance and administration of a certain territory. It was up to them to ensure that the land they ruled was profitable, organized and under control. Their power normally came from a higher ruler, to whom they owed taxes. This higher ruler would also call upon his nobles to send soldiers and supplies in times of war.
