Their lands and their power were derived from promises of military support for the king, and this meant that if the king had a war, the lords had to support him. Those who did not actually go fighting were expected to provide great sums of money to support the war.

Another disadvantage was that lords had duties to the serfs and other people of lower class. They were required to provide protection for the people who lived on their estates in case of war or hard times. If there was a famine, they were even expected to provide their serfs with food. And since the serfs had a right to the land, the lords could not make them go away.

Women didn't have much freedom and there are many reasons for that. Peasant women especially struggled with middle ages. For starters they couldn't go to school so they never had an education instead they had to stay home and help their parents with the chores like harvesting the crops.

Women lost even more freedom when she got married because this was when the husband started taking charge of the family. The women would now have to do more jobs and the husband would get always get payed about 2 pence more for whatever job he did even though he worked less.
