Arms Race's have always existed. When the first primitive man picked up a rock, his opponent looked for a bigger rock to throw at him. When man threw his first spear, some other fellow invented a bow and arrow, to launch a spear further and faster. When the bow reached it's zenith, someone invented a lead ball launched from a steel tube by exploding gunpowder. That firearm launched a metal projectile further and faster than any arrow launched from a bow. Then came the airplane and we began fighting in the skies. Then the submarine, and we began to chase each other UNDER the sea. The Battle of Tsushima in May of 1905 resulted in the 20th Centuries FIRST serious (most deadly of pre-atomic age weapons) Arm's Race; the DREADNAUGHT race. Britain's battleship HMS Dreadnaught approved for construction five months after Tsushima was launched in 1906 creating the world's first steel battleship arm's race which would culminate into WW1. WW2 introduced Aircraft Carrier warfare; but the Atomic Bombs dropped in August of 1945 disallowed any more conventional weapons races. Arm's Races from 1945 onward were to be NUCLEAR. Bombs and Missiles (Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles/ICBM's).
