1 - After Princeton and the failed attempt to intercept and destroy the victorious Washington forces, the British Army led by Cornwallis retreated to New Brunswick in order to cover that strategical position and its important stores of supply, compelled to keep a strictly defensive attitude.

2 - The revolution was saved. The victory had not only highlighted

Washington's soldierly ability, but it was gained in a moment when it was essential to restore the drooping spirit of the newborn nation and to demonstrate to the world that the birth was not to be considered a still one.

Date of Battle: January 3, 1777

Location of Battle: Princeton in New Jersey, USA

American Commander: General Geore Washington

British Commander: Lord Cornwallis/Charles Mawhood

Size of the armies: 7,000 Americans against 8,000 British and Hessians although only 1,200 British troops were principally engaged.

Uniforms, arms and equipment: The British wore red coats and headgear of bearskin caps, leather caps or Tricare hats depending on whether the troops were grenadiers, light infantry or battalion company men. The two regiments of light dragoons serving in America, the 16th and 17th, wore red coats and leather crested helmets. The German infantry wore blue coats and retained the Prussian style grenadier miter with brass front plate. The Americans dressed as best they could. Increasingly as the war progressed regular infantry regiments of the Continental Army wore blue uniform coats but the militia continued in rough clothing. Both sides were armed with muskets and guns. The Pennsylvania regiments carried long, small caliber, rifled weapons.

Winner: The Americans outmaneuvered the British and escaped Cornwallis' encircling move.

How many people died: In all, around 520 men were killed, wounded, or captured from both sides.

The Battle of Princeton was very very very important! I actually know what I'm talking about, we are learning about it in history. I have a project on it due tomorrow. I have to do the power point... any way! The Battle of Princeton is important because that's what gave America their hope back. All of our soldiers were fleeing home because they lost all hope of wining! We had little shelter, no shoes, and horrible clothing. George Washington, our General at the time, noticed how bad of shape is men were in, knowing that we needed an easy win, he decided to set the Red Coats up. We went and attacked Trenton, so the Brits went there to help, but on their way over we snuck behind them and went to Princeton. We won both battles and got our hope and pride back.
