An economic depression. The amazing thing is that the depression of the late 1800's was far worse than the depression of the 1930s and 40s. But, people seem to forget that for some reason. I think maybe it is because there was no radio and film to capture the trauma of that depression.
World War II is said to have pulled us out of the Depression because we supplied our allies with war materials, which created jobs and jump started our economy. Therefore, people believe the war helped end the Depression.
WW1 was very hard not only on the people fighting the war, but the people whose family members were in the war were also impacted for the fear of that (those) family member(s). More people were killed in that war than any other war in the world.

It ended the depression because more people got jobs working to produce war materials such as munitions etc. The more munition factories opened, the more people would get work.
People who hate war because they don't know the philosophy of war, what caused war, etc. Before World War II broke, America was in great depression. The war helped America out of the Great Depression. Why? And, still many people are duped to think that Frank Roosevelt solved America out of depression...

FDR's response to the Great Depression, was to restore America's economy and put faith back into the people on their country.
The invisible scar is what was left on the people. It is a feeling that stuck with people till there dying day to continue working and not be poor and homeless. After the great depression people would not trust banks some stuffed it in their matress.

The Great Depression caused many people to lose their jobs and their homes in the 1930's America. One long range effect of the Great Depression, was that people learned to save and spend their money wisely.
