Both had crucial turning points- Saratoga and Tet. Both Civil Wars. Guerilla style warfare. Both were fighting over government. Outside countries were not supportive of wars. Only 1 of the 2 sides had issued uniforms. Both used guns and gun powder. Both were fought over vast distances with long lines of communication. Both wars triggered animosity among the common people. The undecided were alienated and the strategies were analogous.

To compare them, both wars were world's super power verses the poor country. In the American Revolution, England was the "World Super Power" and America was the small and poor country, well at the time America has yet to become their own independent country so they were a part of England in this America was backed by Poland, and France. In the Vietnam War, The Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the National Front for the Liberation of Vietnam wanted to unite and create a communist system over the nation, so this was Vietnam's power. The Republic of Vietnam was against the whole movement and was backed by America. In the American revolution Britain had the world's best military, and Navy. The Americans military was made up with any male willing to fight, and later on women such as Molly Pitcher will join the fight as well so we were the Insurgents.

Neither the US Civil War nor the Vietnam War were declared wars. Both wars occurred in the 60's; 1860's & 1960's. Both wars had a US President assassinated. Both wars had a Johnson for Vice President. In both wars the President's assassin(s) were killed before being brought to trial. The US Civil War was our nation's FIRST military draft. The Vietnam War was our nation's LAST military draft. Both were the ONLY US wars in which the US Navy operated a Riverine Navy (known by the US Navy, as the "Brown Water Navy"-both wars had a "MONITOR" in their Riverine Navies). Both wars divided US families and friends. Both wars had DRAFT RIOTS. Both wars had a "Civil Rights Movement" involving the same peoples. In both wars, the SOUTH lost. In both wars, the defeated were treated harshly upon their return home.
