Marea was a submarine. The Marea and Attilio Russo subs carried out 2 secret missions on behalf of the Allies after Italy switched sides. The Marea is the name of a fictional ship in Joyce Carol Oates' The Gravedigger's Daughter loosely based on the historical voyage of the the St. Louis in 1939 in which both Cuba and the United States refused to allow entry of Jewish refuges.
