The main cause is arguably the implementation of the Treaty of Versailles because the causes stem from the treaty. First, Hitler started building his military, then he occupied the Rhineland which directly violated the Treaty, but Britain and France did nothing. another reason is that Hitler demanded the Sudetenland back, which was currently part of Czechoslovakia, and Britain and France gave it to him with a promise that he would stop claiming land. Germany also went into Austria, which is where Hitler is from. And the final straw was when Germany invaded Poland.
