There are many factors that could have changed the outcome of the war. If the Confederacy could have gotten a strong ally, such as Great Britain or France, they would have been able to fight longer. If the Confederacy had been able to stock pile goods and raw materials prior to the beginning of the war, they might have been able to make it difficult enough that the North would have quit. If the Federal forces had been more on their toes and removed the goods and materials in the Federal armories in the south, the war might have been shorter.
