This created a philosophy of containment by western powers to control communism in Europe and Asia. This containment became policy by a series of US presidents and western powers. Thus, the Cold War was created. A great deal centered around the Berlin Wall and Soviet controlled satellite states.
The United States and the former U.S.S.R. were the two participants in the Cold War. It was essentially an arms and technology race to see which country was greater.
