It's a tricky question, because after the war many new countries were formed out of old colonies or empires. Some of these new countries were "protected" by the more powerful countries (mainly Britain and France, but also Belgium, Australia, Japan and South Africa) under a system called the "mandates". This "mandate" basically made former German territories (mostly in Africa and the South Pacific) and former Ottoman territories (in the Middle East) into what were basically colonies for their "protectors".

More immediately, many countries did actually gain territory after the war. France got back Alsace-Lorraine (taken from them by Germany in 1871). Italy got some territory from Austria-Hungary (and Italy was upset that they didn't get as much as they had been promised, which would lead to problems for Europe later...). Serbia merged with other former possessions of Austria-Hungary and created the new country of Yugoslavia. Former countries who hadn't existed in a century or more were brought back into being, such as Poland and the Baltic states.

There are four main countries in the allied powers: Britain, France, USA and Italy. Almost all of them gained land except for Italy. Italy was invited by Britain and France to join WWI and was promised land for reward. However, After WWI, Italy did not gain all the land promised.
