The People's Party (aka the Populists) had many of their local ideals appropriaated by the Democratic Party and decided to support Bryan in 1896.

In North Carolina , at the state level, they had allied with the Republicans, but were defeated in the 1900 elections by the Deocrats. People gradually lost interest in the party and after 1900, they were not a force at all.
