This is a highly technical matter. Restitution took or takes the form of: 1. Compensation for loss of property. 2. Compensation for loss of money. (This is subject to the general conversion rate of the Reichsmark to the Deutsche Mark, as applied in 1948 when the Deutsche Mark was introduced, namely 1 DM = 10 RM on balances up to RM5,000; above that the rate was less favourable. 3. Partial refunds for tax(es) levied for exit visas from the German Reich. 4. Pensions. 5. Miscellaneous (such as compensation for expulsion from university on grounds of religion, ethnicity, party political allegiance and/or gender. In a very few cases, free medical treatment in Germany has been offered). 6. Restoration of German citizenship on request. Note. The above apply/applied to former Germans who were persecuted on racial and/or political grounds. In all cases, conditions apply and evidence is required. As far as I know, the closing date for applications for compensation passed long ago. If you yourself are seeking restitution now, contact a suitably qualified attorney.
