For reasons unknown, even though North Vietnam and the Soviet Union and Red China stated they were communists, and stated their intent on taking over the Free Republic of South Vietnam, SOME US citizens still believed the war in Vietnam to be a CIVIL WAR, in which communism was not an issue. Another perspective from US citizens, was that the communists were trying to take over South Vietnam, and had to be stopped.

He didn't want to be in the Army, he didn't want to be in Vietnam, but he was drafted or facing the draft, so he did his two years to the best of his ability; and in most cases, discharged and put the war behind him.
South Vietnam? Or North Vietnam? South Vietnam thought they were helping America to stop the spread of Communism (Domino Thoery), North Vietnam under the leadership of Ho Chi Minh, were getting arms and supplies from China and Russia via the Ho Chi Minh Trail. They thought they were helping to spread Communism as Communism being the right government. But American media gave a bad image of the war in Vietnam.
ALL foreigners out! That meant anybody...French, Japanese, Americans, Russians, or Chinese. They just wanted to settle the issue with their relatives down south...the South Vietnamese.
Had they not been a communist country supported by the USSR/Chinese Communists...maybe they could've.
But being communists during the cold war, was bad timing on their part...because that involved the US.
Vietnam war = Chiến tranh Việt Nam
Q who was the victor of the Vietnam war? A I have no idea who won the Vietnam war!!!!
In America. the American soldiers? No. In Vietnam - the Vietnamese Viet-Cong? Yes.
The North Vietnamese regard it as a war of liberation. The Americans saw it as a war against Communism. For them is was mostly a defensive and ´containment´ war, trying to keep the North Vietnamese from conquering South Vietnam.
The Vietnam War=the military draft!
