On May 15, 1975 American Marines stormed the beaches of a remote island in the Gulf of Thailand called Koh Tang to perform a rescue mission. However, due to intelligence failures and other factors, 41 American servicemembers died that day or were missing in what would be regarded as the last battle of the Vietnam War

I dont understand the above . The Vietnam War was over decades ago. Many consider the last battle for the US in the Vietnam War was not actually against the North Vietnamese. It was against the Khmer Rouge, who took over Cambodia in 1975. They captured the US Ship the SS Mayaguez on May 12, 1975.

You can read about it here: http://www.usmm.org/mayaguez.html

Vietnam was a divided country, formerly the French colony of Indochina, on the southeast coast of mainland Asia. It is west of the Philippines across the South China Sea.

The air war was fought over the skies of North Vietnam. The ground war was fought in South Vietnam. The US Navy's riverine wars were fought in the rivers & swamps of South Vietnam.

There was some action taken in Cambodia and Laos, typically air raids and a few ground sorties.
The Vietnam war was fought mostly in Vietnam. Some fighting occured in the nearby countries of Laos and Cambodia. At that time the country was divided into North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The U.S. was trying to help South Vietnam. Vietnam is located on the Asian continent somwhat south of China and bordering on the Pacific Ocean.
